What is Rugby Rise?

Rugby Rise is a place-based pilot project being delivered by the Active Wirral Wellbeing team and funded by England Rugby.  The project aims to engage more young people aged 14-19 with rugby by listening and understanding what the wants and needs are for young people on the Wirral.

What is the vision?

To connect more young people across the Wirral with rugby, building a strong inclusive community where Rugby Rise plays a role in growing and sustaining the game for all.

The work will be focused in 3 key areas –

  • Enabling young people to make informed decisions about being involved in rugby, by providing high quality information and positive first experiences
  • Supporting the Wirral rugby network to develop their approach and capability in reaching, engaging and learning from young people
  • Creating the opportunity and platform for young people to shape this project to deliver on the vision

Short to Medium Term

  • An engaged and committed young person’s group supporting the rugby network to think and work differently in how to reach different YP audiences
  • A network from inside and outside of rugby working together to make the game more visible and improve more young people’s perception of it, through high quality engagement and information

Longer Term

  • A more visible and inclusive rugby culture across Wirral where people can get involved and it’s easy to do so
  • Those involved with the delivery of rugby are supported as a part of a strong network, and everyone is working together to continue to create opportunities for young people to be involved with rugby.
