Gaia art installation in background and people powered rocket in front Gaia at The Grand Entrance Active Wirral Ride Leaders taking part

This week saw lots brilliant events taking place to accompany Luke Gerram’s Gaia in the UNESCO World Heritage shortlisted site Birkenhead Park, as part of Wirral Borough of Culture. Thousands of people came to visit the installation and take part in a number of activities including, Tai Chi and line dancing and yoga. For Love Your Earth day a full of walkabout performances; including the People Powered Rocket – to the delight of audiences, stalls from community groups who are making a difference to the environment, and performances from singers, poets and storytellers touching on themes around the Earth took place.

Active Wirral team member Fi and ride leader Jane took part in cycling the People Powered Rocket which was tough going and we even managed to recruit cyclist Tessa to join our team of ride leaders.  The cycling was tough as the rocket was a little clunky and the seats were not your normal bike seats and positions.  What an experience to be involved in this event.
